CSE Insurance Group receives approval of SAVE Program from the California Department of Insurance
WALNUT CREEK, CA, September 13, 2011– CSE Insurance Group (www.cseinsurance.com), a leader in providing civil service employees with quality protection at affordable rates, is excited to announce the approval of its new SAVE Program from the California Department of Insurance. "As more Insurers offer this type of program, California will benefit from a healthier environment and consumers will benefit from a wider selection of choices when shopping for auto insurance," said Commissioner Jones. "This environmentally-conscious program unites economic savings with emissions reduction in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gases. I encourage more insurance companies to start offering pay-drive options to their policyholders." CSE Insurance customers will be able to take part in this new, innovative program where drivers are rewarded for driving fewer miles with lower auto insurance premiums. This voluntary program will be available in an annual policy term with the minimum mileage starting at 5,000 miles. It includes a rating factor for each mile driven, so a driver only pays for that exact number of miles driven each year. This is different from any other pay-drive program in the market as other programs offer use "mileage bands" to calculate policy premiums. "The new SAVE Program structure is quite simple," comments Pierre Bize, President and CEO of CSE. Bize adds, "This is a true pay by the mile program where our customers pay for the miles they drive. Not only are drivers reporting their actual mileage, they are reimbursed for the difference between their estimated and actual annual mileage." The insured will receive a refund if the annualized mileage is below the original estimated annual mileage reported. If the actual mileage driven is greater than the original estimated yearly mileage, the insured will be billed for the difference, making this new program truly a consumer managed program. Mr. Bize continues, "We believe the SAVE Program generates other clear benefits that fit squarely into our green initiative efforts by encouraging program participants to drive less." "Pay-Drive Insurance is a simple yet innovative way to incentivize and reward those who drive less by saving them money while they reduce their environmental footprint," said Justin Horner, Transportation Analyst with the Natural Resources Defense Counsel. "We are encouraged to see more products that tie insurance premiums to the actual miles people drive. These kinds of solutions can help the environment and save Californians money." CEO Pierre Bize concludes, "At CSE we continually strive to improve the customer experience through customer service, technology and product design. The SAVE Program is a leading edge auto insurance product. It provides more accurate mileage rating. It's what's right for the customer." "With 174 districts in California teetering on the financial brink, it's more critical than ever that the general public and public foundations support the incredible efforts our teachers are achieving despite constantly shrinking budgets and larger classroom size," said David Wong, president of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs' Foundation. "I became a teacher because every child I've ever come in contact with had so much potential, I couldn't imagine a life doing anything else but helping them reach that potential." - Teacher Nominee "I became a teacher because I believe that I can make a difference in the lives of young people. I have now followed that dream for 10 years, and each year I spend hundreds of my own money to buy supplies to enrich my classroom." - Teacher Nominee "My students are my inspiration. (From Insurance Journal) WALNUT CREEK, CA, December 7, 2010 – To liven up its holiday cards this year, CSE Insurance Group ran a contest in which the children and grandchildren of its agents submitted artwork. The card illustration contest "enabled us to involve our agent force on a fun level. What parent or grandparent doesn't enjoy bragging on their children or grandchildren? Second, kids often have a better grasp on what the holidays are about than we do! It's good to see this time of year through their eyes," said Vice President of Market Strategy and Business Development Matt Hull. The contest guidelines were minimal: keep the design on the general side, and let creativity run wild. "Anything that could fit on a piece of paper, we encouraged," Hull noted. "Crayons, markers, cut-outs, felt, glitter, you name it. And the kids responded." Whittling down the entries to the winning four for the holiday cards and six for the calendar was, according to Hull, "a brutal process." Agents were encouraged to select their favorites on the company's Facebook page, and employees also voted. Originally, the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based company had planned to give the winners a gift card to Toys-R-Us, but in the spirit of the season, it was decided to give one to all the entrants along with the creators of the entries selected for use. See all the holiday card winners at http://www.cseinsurance.com/blog/2010/12/presenting-winners-in-our-1st-annual.html. announce settlement with California Department of Insurance
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 30, 2010 – Civil Service Employees Insurance Company and CSE Safeguard Insurance Company (collectively “CSE”), announced today the settlement of an enforcement action against CSE by the California Department of Insurance (“Department”). The settlement marks the end of a lengthy market conduct examination in which the Department of Insurance found alleged violations of the Insurance Code and Regulations by CSE. CSE disagreed with the vast majority of the citations issued by the Department, most of which concerned technical interpretations of the Regulations – not improper or unfair treatment of policyholders. When discussions seeking an informal resolution stalled, CSE invoked its right to have the dispute resolved in an administrative hearing. Several months after the hearing was adjourned, the Department of Insurance presented to CSE a settlement proposal substantially less than its prior settlement offer. “CSE has been serving the insurance needs of civil servants for more than 60 years, providing them with quality protection at affordable rates,” said CSE Insurance Group President and Chief Executive Officer Pierre Bize. “The findings of the Department of Insurance’s market examination are not representative of our commitment to proving excellent service to our policyholders, but we look forward to putting this matter behind us and building a collaborative future relationship with the Department.” CSE has a history of being recognized by the California Department of Insurance for its performance. In 2009, CSE completed its second consecutive year of having no justified complaints from any of its Homeowners policy holders filed with the Department, a testament to the quality of CSE’s claims handling procedures.
