CSE has two auto products in California: CSE Safeguard Insurance and Civil Service Employees Insurance.
CSE Safeguard Insurance
Among the many available options for CSE Safeguard are:
- Special discounts for educators, firefighters, law enforcement professionals, and other qualifying groups (see definition of who is eligible below).
- Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage, available when the insured purchases Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability coverage as part of their policy.
- Towing and roadside assistance coverage.
- Motor home and trailer coverage.
- A discount for drivers who qualify under one or more of the following. While the exact amount of the discount depends on several factors, the percentages shown are the usual amount. - We also have a Disappearing Collision Deductible program. It reduces the deductible by $50 for each policy term (the policy term is six months) where no collision claim is filed up to a $250 maximum.
(1) All full-time or retired from full-time publicly employed firefighters, law enforcement officers as defined below, and publicly employed teachers plus professors qualify for the 10% discount. All other full-time employees of a government unit qualify for the 5% discount.
Full-time is defined as working at least thirty hours per week on a permanent basis.
Government unit is defined as an entity which directly or indirectly receives its authority from federal, state, county, or local laws, or which by custom is associated with these units. A government unit may be:
- The executive, judicial, or legislative branch of the federal or a state government;
- One of the branches of the military including the National Guard;
- A federal independent agency such as the U.S. Postal Service;
- A county, municipal, or local government official.
Government employee is defined as any person who is principally employed on a permanent, full-time basis by a government unit (as defined above) in the public service or has retired from such employment. This definition includes:
Law enforcement officers are defined as:
- Police officers;
- Sheriffs;
- FBI agents;
- Secret Service agents;
- Officers of the Department of Homeland Security;
- Prison guards;
- Border Patrol Enforcement personnel;
- Other comparable positions whose duties are primarily the prevention and/or investigation of offenses against the criminal laws, apprehension and/or detention of individuals either suspected of, charged with, detained for, or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws;
- An employee engaged in the aforementioned activity who is transferred to a supervisory and/or administrative position;
- A probation or pretrial services officer.
(2) A Good Driver discount may be applied to a private passenger vehicle if the principal operator meets the eligibility criteria listed below:
- Licensed to drive for three or more years;
- In the past three years:
- Not been principally at fault in an accident which resulted in bodily injury to anyone or damages greater than $750.00;
- Not been principally at fault in an accident resulting in damage to property for which they were convicted for a traffic violation;
- Not been convicted of more than a one point traffic violation;
- Not had more than one traffic conviction dismissed as a result of attending traffic school;
- Not had in combination more than one of the above items;
- Not been convicted on any major traffic violation.
- In the past ten years:
- Not been convicted of DUI.
(3) A Mature Driver discount may be applied if the principal operator of the insured vehicle meets all of the following criteria:
- Is 50 or older;
- Has a completion certificate dated within the most recent 36 months certifying they have successfully completed a Mature Driver Improvement Course approved by the California Department of Motor Vehicles;
- Has during the past three years neither been the principal in an accident for which payment exceeding $750.00 has been made nor convicted of any moving violations or traffic-related offense involving alcohol or narcotics.
(4) A Driver Training discount may be applied to a private passenger vehicle if the principal driver has two or less years driving experience and meets all of the following criteria:
- Is under twenty-one years of age;
- Has a valid California drivers license;
- Has successfully completed a driver education course. Your agent can provide specifics about the standards the course must meet in order to qualify for the discount.
(5) A Good Student discount may be applied to a private passenger vehicle if the principal driver meets the eligibility criteria listed below:
- The driver is between 16 and 24 years old and is a full-time high school, college, or university student.
- On the anniversary date of the policy a school official presents to your agent for the purpose of presenting to CSE a statement certifying the driver has met any of the following conditions during the school semester immediately preceding the policy’s anniversary date:
- The driver was in the upper twenty percent of their class scholastically;
- The driver maintained a B average or equivalent thereof in a letter grading system;
- At a school where the grading system cannot be averaged the driver received no grade lower than B;
- The driver maintained a minimum 3.0 grade point average in a 4.0 - 1.0 point grading system;
- The driver was on the Dean’s List, Honor Roll, or comparable roster signifying scholastic achievement.
