We’ve got your back

Deep thoughts from an insurance intern…

I think that in the outside world, insurance gets a pretty bad rap.  It is something everyone needs to have, yet no one seems to fully understand.  I bet that no kid has ever said “I want to be in insurance when I grow up.”  In fact, insurance is usually only noticed by the general public when they have to pay their bill or when some fantastic claim happens:

As a child I was the same way, and still am in many ways, but have since realized an important fact: Insurance is about people and promises.  It is a promise that someone will have your back.

I appreciate and enjoy the new perspective I have developed since working here at CSE.

Factoidal Friday

I can’t believe it’s already here–my favorite (blog posting) day of the week.  Welcome to Friday and all the psychological relief and pleasure it brings.  It’s “Did ya know?” time…

Did ya know….

  • Every year in the US, about 625 people are struck by lightning.  That gives you roughly a .000002% chance of being struck this year. So watch out– if it looks like lightning, wear a rubber suit…
  • The probability of scoring 10/10 on a multiple choice test (with four options for each question)  is exactly 1 in 1,048,576.  So if you’ve ever gotten 100% on a test formatted like that, pat yourself on the back;
  • The furthest you can see with the naked eye is 2.4 million light years away! or 140,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles (Andromeda Galaxy);
  • And my personal favorite: In New York City, approximately 1,600 people are bitten by other humans annually. Are you visiting NYC?  There’s a .000028% chance you are going to get bit.  Accept it.  Wear some human (or zombie) repellent.

Make it a great (long!) weekend.

Ode to Amy

Our customers have used a lot of words to praise our claims team.

I don’t blame ‘em.  CSE’s customers cannot get enough of our claims department!  Our claims team is as smooth as silk, but don’t take my word for it, listen to our customers:

  • The CSE contact – Amy Bonton was very helpful and sympathetic.  She was able to answer all our questions and provide expert guidance to help through this process.  CSE rates 5 stars in our book so far! (David W., La Mesa, CA)
  • We were very pleased with the fast and courteous service. Our representative, Amy Bonton was very professional, responsive and helped us deal with our difficult problems. Thanks. (Ralph W, Bermuda Dunes, CA)
  • I would like to commend Amy Bonton for the expeditious manner in which she handled my claim following a robbery in my home. One has such low expectations these days. Reaching a real human being is a rare experience. A home robbery is a very emotional event. So that her understanding and helpful recommendations came at a time when thoughtfulness and skill brought great relief to me and my family. I do wish to thank you for the service. (Thelma H., Monterey Park, CA)
Amy Bonton, our hat goes off to you.  Thank you to Claims, and today particularly, thank you Amy!

Scholarships Available!

CSE is proud to announce their 2012 Youth Scholarship Program!

CSE sponsors this annual essay competition designed to promote awareness of young driver safety. CSE has sponsored the program for over 15 years, helping graduates cover some of their ever-increasing college expenses.

The program is open to high school seniors in Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah who are children of public employees. A total of nearly $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded in 2012 to winning entrants based on their essays that discuss ways to reduce teenage automobile accident rates.

The competition is divided into three geographic regions: Northern California, Southern California, and Arizona/Nevada/Utah. In each region, CSE will offer one $1,500 scholarship for first place, one $1,000 scholarship for second place, $500 scholarship for each third place, and $250 for fourth place.

Tell your friends, families, neighbors, coworkers- anyone you believe could benefit from this Youth Scholarship Program!

All Together Now

This past Friday, February 10th, CSE employees gathered for our monthly all-employee meeting.

Our fearless leader (and emcee) was Pierre Bize.  He went over our action plan and balance sheet.  He reminded us that CSE has grown at about 8.1% (compounded) a year since he’s taken over the position of CEO!

Next, Sarah Ferrucci told us (and showed us) all about the Blazing Hot Celebrity Chef competition.  It was a great success–thank you to all those who participated!

Stefan Dobrus, our new Fun Club captain, invited/pleaded for anyone to join the club. He also informed us that perhaps a finance guy in charge of anything fun might not be such a great idea.  We’ll see…

We welcomed the newest, and (debatably), the most handsome member of our team, Rob Connelly.

Congratulations Sheng Zhong!  He deserved and was awarded employee of the month!

We also honored Bhanu Pavuluri.  He received a service award for hitting his five year mark with CSE. Thanks for your service Bhanu!

We concluded the meeting with a perfect attendance raffle.  Darin Fraser was our grand prize winner of $1000!

We had a great meeting, and appreciate everyone who participated.  We want to especially congratulate all those with perfect attendance!

Friday Factoids

It’s Friday, the sun is shining (in some places), and for the coup de grâce of the week I thought I’d start sharing some interesting facts on Fridays.  You’ll be the superstar of weekend parties with these “Did you Knows?”.

Today’s facts will (mostly) be about driving, but who can resist a few pointless yet fascinating facts?

Did you know…

  • The very first speeding ticket was issued in 1904.  The driver was ticketed for zooming at the alarming rate of 12 mph.
  • Almost 40% of fatal accidents involve alcohol.
  • You’re born with 300 bones, but when you get to be an adult, you only have 206.
  • Weekends, between midnight and 3 a.m., are the most likely time for a person to be involved in a fatal crash.
  • The electric chair was invented by a dentist — seems appropriate.
  • Car accidents are the most common and most deadly source of personal injury in the world.
  • And finally, for some homage to my home state: In Utah it is illegal to swear in front of a dead person.
Have a superb weekend and drive safely!
